O’s Bloos

Bosse Broberg Sextet/Quintets

O’s Bloos

PB7 038

In August 2018, after a concert with the band Good Morning Blues, Tomas Matsson came up to me and said,“Wouldn’t it be great to make a record with Bosse Broberg and you and Hampus could play on it as well?” Bosse, the trumpet player in the band, is one of the truly great in Swedish jazz, and Hampus Adami (trombone) is my son, so clearly I was excited by the idea. The plan was that we would just record a relaxed jam session in which we would play some of our favourite tunes and Matsson
said he would help finance the project through his foundation for jazz music.
Bosse and Hampus were on board with the idea and we decided to include songs as a sextet, as well as two different quintet arrangements. With Göran Strandberg on piano, Patrik Boman on bass and Bosse Söderberg on drums, we had the ideal rhythm section for our project. The next step after that was to find dates that would
work for everyone, and on November 25 and December 3 we laid down the tracks.
Along with some of our favourite standards, Bosse Broberg introduced two of his own blues compositions, “The Heap” and “O’s Bloos,” the latter dedicated to the late, great Lasse O’Månsson, a prominent figure in Swedish media from around 1950 until his death in 1988. He was a revolutionary humorist both on stage and in radio and TV, as well as the editor of different publications, including the Swedish version of
MAD. When we finished recording, Bosse felt strongly that this record would have been something Lasse O’Månsson would have really enjoyed, and we decided to dedicate the album to him. So, this one’s for you Daddy O!
